Albir.Life on a Sunday

Albir Costa Blanca
Welcome to Albir

Sunday is a day of relaxation and enjoyment. The town of Albir comes to life with an influx of visitors here to enjoy the easy pace of life and the many things to see and do. Starting early in the morning if you plan well you can make a whole day of it.

The Lighthouse Walk or Hike to the Antennas

Sunday is a popular day for family walks. The natural park of the Sierra Gelada that overlooks Albir offers many walking routes. From the car park entrance you can take the main path around the headland for the 3km walk to the Albir lighthouse (Faro Del Albir). There is a solid path all the way and it is popular with families, cyclists and joggers. An alternative is the uphill, off path, trip up to the summit of the Sierra Gelada and the antenna masts. Follow markings on rocks and trees to find your way up steep inclines. The views are amazing.

The walks can take up to 2 hours. It is good to start early to avoid the hottest parts of the day.

Albir Sunday Market

Starting from around 8:30am the Albir Sunday market is a must for bargain hunters. The market takes place at the main municipal car park and offers everything from fruit and veg, to clothing and household goods.

There are many bargains to be found as you stroll the walkways up and down. There are over 200 stalls run by local people selling local products. The market runs on Sunday mornings finishing at around 1pm.

Albir Beach

The town of Albir has a “blue flag” beach, one of the best on the Costa Blanca. A trip to Albir beach and a swim in the sea is a must on the hot summer days. It is a large mainly pebbled beach. There are areas of sand. Beds and parasols are available to hire, or you can bring your own.

There are several bars and restaurants available on the beach promenade offering snacks and refreshments. A walk alone the promenade towards Altea is always nice. Find our photos on Instagram.

Sunday Lunch

After a walk up to lighthouse, a walk around the market and a swim in the sea you will have probably worked up quite and appetite. Albir has some restaurants and pubs that offer great food, especially the traditional British Sunday roast.

If you want a Sunday roast lunch in Albir then the Albir.Life Guide and Directory would recommend you try The Church Irish Pub, or the Albir Arms. Both of these are very popular establishments with tourists and locals.

Super Sunday Sports

After lunch it is time to catch up with the days sporting events. Sundays are a great day for sports. There are many football matches from all of Europe’s top leagues. Formula 1 Grand Prix, golf and cricket are all popular sports. We recommend that sports fans pay a visit to The Orange Tree. This pub is extremely popular as it has a large outside sun terrace with a giant screen. You wont miss any of the action.

Live Music

After the sports you can wander the town and find some of the great Albir nightlife there is on offer. There are many pubs, restaurants and cocktail bars that offer a great way to spend the warm evenings watching the world pass you by. Many places normally offer great live music and drinking until the early hours of the morning. But unfortunately, at the time of writing this piece, live music restrictions are in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and all establishments must be closed by 1am, with last entry to bars and restaurants at midnight.
